Letter writing in 2SB…

This week we have been learning how to write letters. We have been using the book ‘Willy and Hugh’ written by Anthony Browne to write letters in role. First we received a letter from Hugh telling us how happy he was to find a friend like Willy. He was writing to us to say thank you… We looked very closely at his letter to find out more about how the letter was organised and written…

We used Hughs letter features to plan our own reply letters. We used audience, purpose and paragraphs to plan interesting letters in role of Willy…

We then used our letter plans to write our own letters back to Hugh … I have been so impressed with the children’s ideas and hard work. There are so many interesting letters that have really made me smile! Well done year 2!

Mrs Stott even sent some personal letters to some of the children in 2SB this week. What a lovely surprise. The children decided to look closely at their letters and found that even Mrs Stott used paragraphs to organise her letters! We have put them on our working wall to remind us of all the important features of letter writing…
